Wine bars in Firenze
There's a wine bar we love in Santo Spirito called Il Santino.
It's our second favourite wine bar in Florence. The first is Le Volpi e l'uva.
We spent time at both of these wine bars when we first visited Florence in 2019.
The second favourite wine bar should really be our first favourite because when we went in 2019 they gave us tickets to their 25th birthday party and we drank free wine on the street all night and it was amazing.
I realised at Il Santino this evening that my slightly (very) bolshie personality is made for this place. We were sitting at a little table on the street patiently waiting for table service and I said to Phil I didn't think we were going to get any, so I was going to see what was going on. He told me to just wait a bit. I told him to stop being timid and that you get no where in life being timid. Sometimes I just need a little pick me up and I become a nicer person. As it transpired, you ordered at the bar. Good thing I was bolshie. We'd have been waiting a while if I wasn't.
I asked the young woman behind the bar for something white and delicious because I still need a wine education in this part of the world. She let me try a sip of Soave and I told her it was delicious. She liked that. Poured me two big glasses. More than the regulation pour, I'm sure.
I ordered a plate of meats and cheese and asked for "lots of salami if possible, please." When our food was delivered the couple next to us got a lot of salami and we got a lot of ham but I decided not to be too bolshie because I liked my new friend behind the bar.
The cheese and meat came with a really delicious, and quite spicy, honey on the side. We liked it a lot.
There was a chalked up message that read "carpe the fucking diem" above where Phil was sitting. So many old men in cargo shorts laughed at that and took photos of us below that sign as they walked past, me shoving meats and wine into my gob while they did because I'm seizing the fucking day, aren't I?
